We bought these crates to use to take basic items to our kids who are overseas. They are so lightweight - we don't have to use 1/4 of our weight limit just for the container.

I own 12 of these. I have owned them for 16 months. I found them at a wholesale for $14.xx/each. Naturally, I bought them out. I used these to ship my possessions internationally. One of the containers held very heavy tools, so heavy that one person could not lift the whole container off the ground. It traveled well in a shipping container to my home overseas. I also flew internationally with several. Now I fly internationally with these a few times each year. They are solid and hold up well to the abuse of airline baggage handlers. The hinge has only been problematic on a few occasions, but they always popped back into the grooves. I have NEVER had the hinges fail during transport, only when opening and allowing the lid to fall backwards toward the ground. None of them have cracked or split open from the weight or abuse. The clasps are solid and will hold even if you pack it until it bulges. Just force the lid down on its proper resting place and snap it closed. I use a TSA lock for all flights and ziptie all the holes to ensure it stays shut. If the zips are cut I can know that the container has been examined by an agent. If you are really concerned it will come open then drill holes near the back where the hinge is and add zipties. This is overkill, but if you must... The $80 price Amazon is charging for the black one is not worth it, find it elsewhere. Even $30 is steep, but I think one would get $30 worth of use from it.I keep one in the back of the truck now as a go-kit (food, water, jump-pack, first aid, etc.). The roads and living conditions of the foreign country that I live make this necessary. It gets the typical abuse of sliding around in the back, being dropped off the tailgate loaded, or being hauled in the weather on the safari rack. Bottom line, its a solid case and puts a walmart contico to shame...

Currently I own 6 of these, 2 of them are the older version w/o wheels and horrible latches, and I even liked those.I use these to store my gear, They stack up in the garage 6 high with no problems. The wheels were a very nice addition. Do they seem flimsy? Somewhat, but they are made of quality high-impact plastic, and I trust them. Are the hinges bad? No. I have not shipped with these but when they are shipped from amazon they arrive in one piece. I would trust them to ship a few thousand dollars of gear over a cardboard box any day, and for the price, they can't be beat. Amazon's price on these cannot be beat either, especially with prime shipping.

I used this Plano box to ship some items in advance of a hunting trip in Alaska. It held an amazing amount of gear including a good sized tent, sleeping bag, sleeping pad, saw, folding shovel, 7 days of dehydrated food. a water purifier. etc etc, But the best thing was that it was the correct size for my frame type backpack, which it also held. altogether the weight was 58lbs. and I sent it through the USPS, my friend needed 2 action packers to ship his stuff and his frame pack didn't fit and I had the tent. it held up well to the treatment and I would have given it 5 stars but the USPS lost one of the wheels. I guess it popped out. so I contacted Plano customer service and they said that they would send a new wheel out free of charge!!! When I get the new wheel I think I will add a couple small metal straps to hold the wheels in better. I expect to get a lot of good use out of this box.

using it as mobile storage unit for my pick up, no complaints whatsoever. Just be careful opening it all the way.by the way,IT IS WATERPROOF!!! And I have tested this for 3 months now (rainy season in my country currently, avg 4 days of rain out of 7 days)Good space and the wheels are icing on the cake. Overall, a good buy.

This item was used for shipping items safely from the US to the UK. It was perfect. Has very stable locking process with 3 areas for padlocks to secure all items. I would recommend this over the TJ anytime.

The new design on the xxl storage box is far improved from the old one. Sporting wheels for easier movement and stronger more durable latches. The one are that was ignored it seems in the design change is the hinge which is still plastic and week and in my opinion the only serious flaw in its design. I recommend this box for storage or shipping, but if a truly rugged container is needed you may want to look elsewere.

It looks like a rigid box but the cover is really flimsy. the walls of the box are thin but will do the job. I put it inside of my SUV for my tools but I cant really stack anything heavy on top of it as I afraid it might break. I like the wheels and u can roll it easily. Didnt try to roll it fully loaded. Didnt wanna send it back either as shipping would be too expensive. So basically i kept it. I thank amazon for upgrading my purchase to a 2 day shipping.

The box wasn't as large as I expected. However it was well constructed and the wheels and latches are sturdy enough to keep in the back of the truck or in the trunk. The overall dimensions should be in the description instead of XXL. It's not XXL..
